One of our goals is to give students the skills, networks, and confidence they need to explore various career pathways, make informed decisions, and prepare for meaningful professional lives. Through intentional programming, alumni engagement, and cross-campus partnerships, ED-LLC students gain access to experiences that expand their opportunities far beyond the classroom.
Alumni Speaker Events
One of our main career development initiatives is its annual alumni speaker event. Our inaugural speaker was ED-LLC and FSU alumna Aaliyah Jenkins, now a Vice President at a Fortune 500 company, returned to campus to share her journey with both current and former LLC students.
She discussed choosing a major, navigating uncertainty, and building a purposeful career path by offering an honest and accessible perspective that resonated deeply with students at all stages of their academic journey. These conversations gave students the chance to ask personalized questions, receive career advice, and begin developing professional relationships with a leader in her field.
Meaningful Connections with ED-LLC Alumni
Career development in the ED-LLC extends far beyond a single event. Throughout the year, students can connect with alumni from diverse industries through events hosted by the Explorer’s Guild. These opportunities include Homecoming activities, annual Day at the Lake, Alumni Speaker Events, and a Graduation Reception. Check out The Explorer’s Guild to see more details on the organization and our events.
ED-LLC LinkedIn Page
To enhance professional development, the ED-LLC actively manages a LinkedIn page. This platform acts as a digital hub for members to connect, celebrate achievements, and share knowledge. It also encourages students to start building their professional online presence early in their college careers. The page highlights the accomplishments of current students and alumni, and it frequently features advice from individuals who have achieved success in their fields.
The Explorer’s Guild Canvas Page
The Explorer’s Guild also advances the ED-LLC’s career development mission through its comprehensive Canvas professional development modules, created to ensure that every student has free, year-round access to high-quality resources. The 2024-2025 executive board spent months designing five key modules tailored to the needs of ED-LLC members:
- Leadership & Campus Involvement: Guides students in developing leadership skills, identifying involvement opportunities, and building a strong foundation for future roles.
- Career Exploration & Skills Building: Provides tools for thoughtful career planning, industry exploration, résumé-building, and skill development.
- Academic Success Resources: Covers study techniques, time management strategies, and academic planning guidance to help students stay on track.
- Networking & Professional Relationships: Teaches students how to build and maintain connections with peers, faculty, mentors, and industry professionals.
- Graduate School Preparation: Introduces application strategies, planning timelines, and tips for strengthening graduate school candidates.
These modules allow members to learn at their own pace while gaining access to resources that often require costly external workshops. Students can revisit the materials throughout their academic and professional journeys, making this a lasting investment in their long-term success.
